Statement of Purpose

The Clicker Training Center believes that training should be fun for both the dog and the handler and should lead to an enriched relationship between them.

Our training method is based on the four elements of operant conditioning:

positive and negative reinforcement
and
positive and negative punishment.

These are the natural consequences of any given behavior, and are incredible training tools. Man didn't invent them, nature did. It is our job to understand each of them and use them correctly.

While there are times when aversives are absolutely necessary, we do not believe that the use of them in teaching new behaviors is necessary. Nor do we believe that it is either necessary or ethical to use physical or mental pain in training our dogs to participate with us in any sport.

We are dedicated to teaching the owner of each dog how to communicate effectively with his companion by using primarily using positive reinforcement.
